February 11
Today was our last day, and we arrived at the Magic Kingdom a little after 9:00 AM. We saw some giraffes on our balcony this morning, but I had already packed the camera.
Some of you may be aware that I collect Fastpasses in a scrap book of sorts, and some of the more elusive ones have been Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Stitch’s Great Escape, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Lights Motors Action!, Primeval Whirl and It’s Tough to be a Bug. As we made our way to Tomorrowland we noticed that one of the Fastpass machines for Stitch’s Great Escape was uncovered, and it did not have the placard on it indicating that usage was only for the Give a Day Get a Day participants. I went over with our tickets, and was able to get two Fastpasses for Stitch’s Great Escape. I wouldn’t be surprised if these will be the last two standard Fastpasses issued for Stitch’s Great Escape. We checked back later in the day, and they had switched it over to Give a Day Get a day Fastpasses, so I’m glad I was able to get them when I did.
The crowds were supposed to be heavier today, but we did a great job of avoiding it. After my Fastpass victory, we went to Space Mountain which was holding a posted 20 minutes wait, but we were on the Omega side in 6 minutes. It seemed like not all of the projectors were on, as the ride was even darker than normal. It was a better experience as it was pitch black in some parts.
We followed up Space Mountain by walking onto Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Marie came so close to maxing out, defeating me 996,500 to 558,800. Round 1 in Tomorrowland was complete with a ride on the Carousel of Progress before making our way to Fantasyland.
On the way to Fantasyland, I took a detour to Big Thunder Mountain for Fastpasses, and then we met up to watch Mickey’s PhilharMagic and ride The Haunted Mansion. The crowds were light enough at that point that we could use our Big Thunder Mountain Fastpass, but before we went off to Frontierland we grabbed Fastpasses for Peter Pan’s Flight.
When we arrived at Big Thunder Mountain there was a tour group of close to 100 teenagers from Argentina. They weren’t any more annoying than other tour groups, the main issues being 100 people hovering around the Fastpass return with one person handing out the Fastpasses. We managed to snake our way into the middle of this group. When we reached the load area, the grouper was pulling her hair out due to the language barrier, but she put us in the back of the train which was a huge plus.
Our trip around the park continued in Adventureland as we caught the end of Captain Jack’s Pirate Tutorial before walking on to Pirates of the Caribbean. The next stop was Jungle Cruise, where we had the weakest of the three skippers on the trip. She was enthusiastic, but she butchered some jokes, and didn’t present anything new.
We hadn’t had a meal at Pecos Bill on this trip, so we felt obligated to have lunch there. It was my first time using the self service kiosk, and I made a mistake in the size of the drinks, but oh well. We noticed the crowds starting to pick up around lunch time, but we had created a backlog of Fastpasses which we were able to use as we went back to Fantasyland. On Peter Pan’s Flight, the cast member in charge of the safety bar sprinkled some pixie dust on it before it lowered automatically. We finished off Fantasyland with a ride on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Our last stop was back in Tomorrowland where our first attempt at seeing Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor was cut short because, “One of the monsters has stage fright”. We were given re-entry passes good for any attraction in the park, but we didn’t have an opportunity to use them. We were able to get through some of the cut shots to the audience of the Monster’s Inc Show before they escorted us out, and I was put on screen as someone that needed a hug. This of course wasn’t true because after all, I got Stitch Fastpasses earlier so I was thrilled.
We followed up the failed attempt at Monster’s Inc with a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. At this point, Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor was up and running again, so we saw that as the last attraction of our trip.
All in all, it was a great trip. We stayed at a place we never stayed before, and despite the weather, it was always nice to wake up with some animals grazing outside our window. Marie and I were able to experience a new roller coaster over at Sea World (Manta); and the Richard Petty ride along experience was a lot of fun, although I doubt I’d ever pay to do it. We tried a few restaurants that I hadn’t experienced before, and returned to an old favorite (‘Ohana). I got to meet someone I only knew as a voice, as webmaster Rob met up with us on day one to shoot a video for the show. I’d say something mushy about spending the time with Marie, but that’s really not my style.
